Launch of Technical Proposal for Bridge Small-Scale Supplemental Damping Device “Steel Bellows Damper (SBD)”
Kawakin Core-Tech Co., Ltd., in collaboration with TAKADAKIKO Co., Ltd., has been conducting research and development of the Steel Bellows Damper (SBD), a small-scale supplemental damping device for bridges.
We are pleased to announce that, following the completion of structural design, performance verification, analytical modeling, and the establishment of product specifications, the SBD is now ready to be proposed for practical application in bridge design projects.
The SBD is a steel damper designed to be installed mainly at girder ends or between girders, leveraging its compact shape and small size. It absorbs seismic energy and reduces seismic response through the elasto-plastic hysteresis behavior of bent steel plates formed in a U-shape.
<Features of the Steel Bellows Damper (SBD)>
①Compact Size with Excellent Damping Performance
By utilizing the plastic deformation of steel, the SBD delivers high damping force even at small displacement levels. Its compact form also allows installation in confined spaces such as between girders.
②High Stability
The main component is fabricated from SN steel, which has minimal variability in mechanical properties, ensuring stable quality. Experimental tests have also confirmed its superior performance under repeated deformation.
③Ease of Maintenance
Even when installed, the SBD allows for good visibility of primary components, facilitating easy inspection. In addition, the bolted connection system enables quick replacement if damage occurs or maintenance is required.
We kindly request your consideration of this product, which can contribute to enhancing the seismic performance of bridges.
